HBO Releases a Promo for The Wire Creator’s New Drama Series
David Simon’s seminal series, The Wire, remains one of the most talked about shows in television history. Its exploration of the narcotics crime scene in Baltimore ventured into the perspectives of the police and drug pushers, while providing commentary on the social and political issues still plaguing our society nearly a decade after the show’s finale. Since then, Simon’s fingerprint has been seen in other HBO series, namely Generation Kill, Treme, and Show Me a Hero. He’s returned once again to take viewers on another crime-drama ride. This time, Simon and co-creator, George Pelecanos, are using the 1970s as a backdrop. The topic of interest? The rise of the porn industry. Check out The Deuce’s first promo trailer:

Starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Deuce takes place in New York during the 70s and 80s. Aside from its two leads, HBO’s latest will also feature the familiar faces of several The Wire alum: Gbenga Akinnagbe, Chris Bauer, Lawrence Gilliard Jr., Anwan Glover and Michael Kostroff.
