Great news on Wonder Woman Day for any fans of Diana, Princess of Themyscira. With Wonder Woman now in theaters across the globe, filmmaker Patty Jenkins has set the record of biggest box office opening by a female director, shattering the previous record set by director Sam Taylor-Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) in 2015.

By the end of Friday night,  the film had already raked in $86-million in worldwide box office earnings and the previous predictions that the film would take in a sum of around $65-million (on par with Captain America: The First Avenger) are certainly way off, with the film already exceeding expectations.

On top of the record-setting box office take, the film has been receiving rave reviews and currently has a ‘Certified Fresh‘ rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 93%.  This makes Wonder Woman the best reviewed film of the DCEU (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad) thus far.

Some of the latest predictions are estimating a final weekend domestic total of $95 to $97-million. But we will have the wait until Sunday night is over to receive the final box office tally.
