Since 2013, New Zeland born actor Manu Bennett has been playing Slade Wilson/Deathstroke, Oliver Queen’s former friend and mentor-turned archenemy on The CW’s Arrow. In the TV-verse, Slade was Queen’s combat mentor on the island and ended up being wounded to the point of death but he was saved when Oliver injected him with a super-strength serum called Mirakuru.

Upon finding out that Shado, the girl he had been in love with had been killed, Wilson immediately blamed Oliver for her death and turned on him, eventually becoming the mercenary and assassin Deathstroke.

Bennett’s portrayal of the character has been very well received over the five seasons of the show and many have been championing a spin-off for the character on social media sites like Twitter, and the actor has been vocally behind the idea as well, prompting fans to reach out to executive producers like  Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, as well as companies like Warner Bros. Television, DC Entertainment, and Netflix who could feasibly make it happen. He even advised getting in touching with Deathstroke’s creator, Marv Wolfman:

A few minutes later, Wolfman replied.

Bennett of course, responded back with thanks for the praise and even comparing their conversation to another famous creator and his creation:

Wolfman’s answer is pretty much the closest to an endorsement as you could possibly get and hopefully, people will take notice.

Joe Manganiello, has already been cast as Deathstroke in The Batman, but Wilson’s storyline arch in the Arrowverse still leaves room to be explored, if the big players are willing-and they should be-and open to exploring it.

  1. Yes yes yes yes!!! I’d love a spin off!

  2. I agree with Feather! 🙂 I don’t know how it would be done, but if the characters in the series are as awesome and well written as Manu’s Deathstroke, this can be an amazing series!

  3. Also, there seems to be so many new posts and articles added here this week haha Not that I will ever complain 😉
