Henry Zaga Officially Cast as Sunspot in New Mutants
It is officially confirmed that 13 Reasons Why actor Henry Zaga will be appearing as Roberto “Bobby” da Costa aka Sunspot in Fox’s new spinoff. It was rumored that the actor was in talks for the role, but it was made official today, the actor taking to his Instagram to express his delight at having been cast.

Though Zaga is Brazilian born like the character, it is important to note that da Costa is of mixed race, his mother being white and his father being Afro-Brazilian like himself, something Zaga definitely is not. In the comics, especially the earlier ones, Sunspot is drawn with visibly dark skin, a contrast to not only Zaga but also to Adam Canto, who briefly played him in X-MEN: Days of Future Past.
Anya-Taylor Joy and Maisie Williams have already been cast as Magik and Wolfsbane respectively, and Charlie Heaton from Stranger Things is reportedly being approached for the role of Cannonball. Still uncast is Danielle Moonstar (Psyche/Mirage), a Native American mutant who is essential to the rumored “Demon Bear” storyline in order to fully round out the team.
