Earlier today The Hollywood Reporter released an article discussing Universal’s monster cinematic universe. In this article, The Hollywood Reporter claims that Universal is reportedly seeking to cast Dwayne Johnson as the classic monster, the Wolfman. If true, Johnson could provide the charisma and star power to an already star studded cast, but this could be a tough task for a busy Johnson.
Dwayne Johnson has become one of Hollywood’s hardest working entertainers and that keeps him very busy. His film Baywatch just released to dismal numbers, but typically Johnson’s projects are all box office hits. Johnson has projects announced, but not yet in production such as a solo Black Adam film, a Shazam film, Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon, Doc Savage, San Andreas 2, and the concluding chapters of the Fast & Furious series, just to name a few. If you are tired just from reading that list of upcoming projects, imagine how tired Johnson must be filming them all. However, Johnson is not known to back down from a daunting task and has been known to work year round on multiple projects.
While the scheduling and timing might be questionable, the star power if Johnson was to join the universe is not. Johnson would join a universe with Johnny Depp (Invisible Man), Russell Crowe (Dr. Jekyll), Javier Bardem (Frankenstein), and Tom Cruise. With notable name after notable name, it is undoubtedly a franchise with tons of potential. Also, the idea as Dwayne Johnson playing a terrifying monster could be a nice transition for the actor who usually portrays easy to root for characters.
Universal’s monster movie franchise kicks off June 9 with Tom Cruise’s The Mummy. In the meantime, let us know if you would you like to see Dwayne Johnson tackle the role of Wolfman. Do you think it’s unrealistic with his busy schedule? Maybe you think someone else would be better suited for the role. Regardless, tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.
