‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Blasts Over $800 Million Worldwide

Everything is looking up for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (cue rave reviews and a new Disney ride?  Heck yeah!) and now, with only less than a month since it’s been out, the film has already surpassed $800 million in the box offices worldwide.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now the sixth ever Disney-Marvel movie to reach this milestone and will join The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and Iron Man 3 in this glory.  In fact, it has even rocketed past its original movie in 2014 with $333 million domestically and $440 overseas.

Domestically, the movie achieved great success, raking in $342.7 million whereas international box offices showed the movie brought in $454.7 million just yesterday.  International market breakdown reveals China contributed $98 million, followed by the U.K. with $47 million and Germany with $25 million.  The movie’s total budget was around $200 million.

The movie was written and directed by James Gunn and starred Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff.  Gunn will return to write and direct the third Guardians installment.
