According to The Hollywood Reporter, Charlie Heaton (better known as Jonathan Byers in the Netflix Original Series’ Stranger Things) is in negotiations with Fox to join their new spinoff of the X-Men Franchise: New Mutants.

The role Heaton will be playing is Sam Guthrie, also known as Cannonball, a teen who propels himself into the air like a cannonball.

The show has already signed up Anya Taylor-Joy (who we saw in Witch and Split) and Maisie Williams (Aria Stark in Game of Thrones) as the young adult cast for the superhero movie, which is set to be directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars and Stuck in Love), who will also write the script of the movie with Knate Lee.

Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple in the MCU) is also in negotiations to join the cast, as a medical doctor who has the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself and the mentor figure of the teens.

Taylor-Joy will be Illyana Rasputin, aka Magik, a girl who knows about sorcery and uses teleportation discs to travel. Williams is set to play Rahne Sinclair, code name Wolfsbane, a girl trying to reconcile her religious beliefs with her ability to turn into a wolf.

The group also includes Native American Danielle Moonstar, a Brazilian ladies man named Sunspot, and an alien called Warlock.

The film is set to have a tone of horror/thriller with a diverse cast of teens and it will tell us the story of a group of teens learning to cope with their superpowers, while being held in a secret facility against their will.
