The Star Wars Universe has kicked off to a great start and it looks like Disney/Lucasfilm doesn’t have any plans to slow down momentum anytime soon. It’s no secret that the Star Wars universe has an expansive cult following around the globe and when The Force Awakens hit theaters back in 2015, it sky rocketed the franchise back into the forefront of pop culture. Last year’s The Rogue One spinoff continued the momentum while promoting diversity with a plethora of minority lead characters. The next installment of the franchise is coming at the end of this year with Star Wars: The Last Jedi as well as an untitled Han Solo Anthology Film to come in 2018.
As the franchise begins to build itself, fans can’t help but wonder how the universe will continue to expand itself. While speaking with Vanity Fair, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy revealed that they are close to coming to a final decision on what the next Star Wars spinoff will be and that they are currently going back and forth with two ideas. Check out her comment below:
“Yes. We haven’t identified it yet, but yes. We have a couple of things right now that we’re circling, and we’ll make a decision between the two pretty shortly. It’s probably 2020 and we will make a decision by June.”
For years, fans have speculated the announcement of spinoff movie centered around Boba Fett The Bounty Hunter. More recently, rumors have spread that an Obi-Wan Kenobi prequel is also in the works. The popularity of the animated Star Wars series The Clone Wars even has many campaigning for a film about the young Jedi Ahsoka.
There are so many directions this franchise can go in and only time will tell whaf the future holds. Are you excited for the announcement coming next month? What are you hoping the spinoff film will be? Let us know in the comments below.
