Warner Bros. is on the search for a new Justice League Dark director, following Doug Liman’s recent departure from the project.

While several directors are already rumored to be under consideration as Liman’s replacement, such as IT director Andrés Muschietti, Popcorn Talk reports that Argentine director and screenwriter Damián Szifron has made the studio’s shortlist as well.

Szifron is an interesting choice for Warner Bros. given their tendency to choose more established film directors with several speculative fiction titles under their belts. This year alone, the studio chose Joss Whedon to direct Batgirl and Matt Reeves for The Batman.

In comparison, for most of his career Szifron has been primarily recognized in his home market for his television work. He is the creator of two popular series, Los Simuladores and Hermanos y detectives.

He recently broke into the international market with his critically acclaimed film Wild Tales, which received an Oscar nod for Best Foreign Language Film in 2014.

Szifron is also the new director and screenwriter of The Six Billion Dollar Man reboot starring Mark Wahlberg. Despite few recent updates on the film, it is reportedly set to premiere on December 22, 2017.

This rumored addition to the shortlist may seem like a risky move. However, Szifron’s impressive resume and unique directorial experiences may be just what Justice League Dark needs.
