In recent years BET has chosen famous comedians to host its biggest event of the year, the BET Awards. In perhaps the network’s best decision ever, Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones will host the 2017 awards.
Jones gained popularity from her hilariously honest appearances during Weekend Update. She was then made a regular cast member and showed up in more sketches.
The rest of the world got to know her in Ghostbusters and through her Twitter feed, which is one of the best in social media.
Her enthusiastic tweets about the Rio Olympics got NBC to send her to Rio as a special correspondent.
As expected Beyonce leads the nominees with seven. She will compete against her sister Solange, as well as superstars Bruno Mars, Rihanna and Chance the Rapper.
In the acting categories nominees include Issa Rae, Donald Glover, Viola Davis, Taraji P. Henson and of course Denzel Washington.
A full list of nominees can be found at bet.com.
The 2017 Bet Awards will air on BET Sunday, June 25 at 8 pm ET.
