The next installment of the X-men film franchise is X-men: Dark Phoenix, and although we do not know much about what the film entails thus far, anti-hero, Mystique may appear.

Recently, it was reported that Michael Fassbender would reprise his role as Magneto, so adding Mystique to the current roster is not far-fetched. The shapeshifting mutant has been portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence in the latest X-men trilogy and previously by Rebecca Romijn in the original trilogy.

Series producer, Hutch Parker was asked if Mystique and Magneto would return to the fray and told CinemaBlend, “I’d rather not confirm any of those officially, but yes, the current story that we’re working on has that group involved as well as some of the younger characters that we introduced last time.”

When Parker was asked which characters were expected to return, the producer replied, “We’re all sorting out exactly which mutants will be part of it, and which ones won’t. It is a bit more expansive than… obviously Logan was a bit more intimate of a story. This one’s a bit more expansive, and you know the comics, so you know how and why. We’re still kind of sorting that through.”

The filming of X-men: Dark Phoenix is slated to begin this summer in Montreal with Sophie Turner returning as the telekinetic and telepathic mutant, Jean Grey.

X-men: Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters on November 2, 2018.
