Judge Dredd TV Series Could Bring Back Karl Urban For Lead Role
Karl Urban, the star of the titular character in Dredd, has now expressed interest in reprising his role. There has been a discussion about whether to develop a sequel to the film, or even the already developing television spinoff series, Judge Dredd: Mega City One. Nonetheless, Urban has reported wanting to return as the grim 2012 superhero.
Comicbook.com reports that Mega City One producer Brian Jenkins recently addressed the possibility of Urban’s reprisal of the role.
“We have had many conversations prior to this, about all sorts of things. He’s also very busy, a full-time professional actor. So we’re going to have some long and complicated conversations, I would imagine, and we’ll see where we go. It’s too early to tell yet, but if we can use him and he’s available to us, then I think that would be absolutely brilliant. There’s always a possibility he will be busy, or that his schedule for other movies won’t allow. Basically, we don’t know at this stage.”
Urban has definitely been busier since the 2012 film, starring in movies such as Star Trek and the upcoming Marvel film Thor: Ragnarok. However, he is no stranger to television, starring in Fox’s Almost Human.
Dredd gained positive reviews from fans, but tanked in the box office, with a gross of only $41.5 million worldwide.
