In a two-hour special event, ABC will be showing a live musical based on the beloved Disney classic.  It will be billed as, The Wonderful World of Disney: The Little Mermaid Live.

The live rendition will be produced by Hamish Hamilton, Ian Stewart, David Jammy, Richard Kraft and Katy Mullan. Celebrities are said to be cast in various starring roles, but there is no word as to when any of the casting announcements will be made.

This announcement comes after Fox revealed they would be doing a live version of Rent and A Christmas Story, while NBC is set to air a live version of Jesus Christ Superstar.

The marks Disney’s first foray into the world of live television musical specials, but last summer, a host of stars, including Sara Bareilles as Ariel, Rebel Wilson as Ursula, Darren Criss as Prince Eric, Norm Lewis as King Triton and Tituss Burgess as Sebastian performed the famous songs at the Hollywood Bowl.
