The New Reggie Actor For Riverdale Is Endorsed and Praised By The Original

Riverdale, a television show which takes the characters and properties of Archie Comics and spins it into a newer, more modernized interpretation.

The CW Network has announced the new actor for the character of Reggie, the recurring antagonist of Archie and his friends, in the form of Charles Melton (American Horror Story: Hotel)

The original actor, Ross Butler, is happy and supportive of the newcomer and had this to say about Melton taking on the role, in a video on Twitter:

“I’m so happy that The CW, Greg [Berlanti], Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa], David [Rapaport] and Sarah [Schechter] gave me, an Asian-American, a chance to play a traditionally-caucasian character, Reggie, In light of recent casting news, I am even more excited and more proud that they decided to keep Reggie Asian-American. It means a lot to me, it means a lot to the Asian-American community, and so I just wanted to say thank you guys again, one more time. I support Charles Melton all the way, passing the baton off.”

Hopefully, Melton thinks it’s pretty great to have an endorsement from the original actor and we here at GOC are also glad that the role is being given strictly to an Asian-American actor as representation of all forms are incredibly important in media productions.

Riverdale will return to the small screen on an unspecified date.
