Based on the YA novel of the same name, Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why has undeniably been a hot topic since its premiere back in March. The story surrounds a group of 12 teenagers who are each given a recorded tape where their recently deceased classmate Hanah Baker explains why she took her life and how they personally played a hand in it. Some have praised the show for its willingness to talk about hard topics without holding back while others have criticized it for sensationalizing suicide instead of creating an open dialogue.

Christian Navarro stars as Tony in the series, the deliverer of Hannah’s tapes. His part in the book is actually quite minimal, but he is a primary character in the Netflix original. He’s in every episode and he even converts the tapes and eventually hands them to Hannah’s parents. With the announcement of a confirmed season 2, Navarro recently sat down to discuss the impact of the show, his hopes for season 2 and more. Since there is only one book, Netflix pretty much has free reign to do what they want in terms of the show’s future and Navarro had some things he felt need to be addressed.

“I think we need justice for Bryce, in regards to his actions, and I would hope that would be a major plotline of season two. Season one was left so open-ended, that there wasn’t really any justice for Hannah, or for Jessica. There’s also a lot of conclusions that need to be drawn for Tyler, for Alex, for a lot of other characters, so there’s a lot of room for growth.”

When asked what he would like to personally see happen in the upcoming season, he said that since we only really saw Tony through his connection with Clay, he’d like a more personal journey for the character to be featured, especially who he was before it all happened and his individual relationship with Hannah. They didn’t just keep the interview to the show though, switching gears for a minute to the topic of superheroes, where he admitted just who he’d like to play if given the chance:

“Iron Man, if eventually Robert Downey Jr. does step down. He is my favorite superhero. So that’s the MCU. With DC, I think there’s some more realistic options, like the Blue Beetle. A Teen Titian, I could play, definitely. There’s options out there, I just haven’t met people yet. I would love to do something like that. Just to be involved in any way would be a dream come true.”
