It’s only been two weeks since the highly anticipated fantasy series American Gods debuted on our television screens and the reception for it has been so positive that Starz has renewed it for a second season, THR reports.

The series is based on the the 2001 Novel of the same name written by Neil Gaiman. It centers on a developing battle between the Gods of Old and the Gods of New. Ancient Deities from cultural and biblical mythos find themselves losing their influence amongst society as the love of things like Technology, Media, Drugs, Celebrity and Money bring about the era of New Gods who seek to take their place. The series’ protagonist comes in the form of ex-con Shadow Moon played by english actor Ricky Whittle (The 100). After an early release from prison, he finds himself being hired as the bodyguard for a mysterious con man who goes by the name Mr. Wednesday played by Ian McShane (Games of Thrones, John Wick). Shadow Moon accompanies Mr. Wednesday on a cross country road trip to gather all of the Old Gods for the battle to end all battles.

Carmi Zlotnik, the programming President for Starz gave a statement about the exciting renewal of the series. Read her statement below:

“Bryan Fuller, Michael Green and Neil Gaiman have evolved the art form of television narratively, structurally and graphically with American Gods, and we’re thrilled to be working again with these artists as they continue to build the worlds and wars of The Gods.”

FreeMantle North America produce the series and their CEO, Craig Cegielski, expressed his excitement to continue their partnership with Starz:

“American Gods has been a ground-breaking series born out of belief and it’s thrilling to be partnered with Starz to continue this ambitious story. Neil Gaiman, Bryan Fuller and Michael Green have ignited a conversation through cinematic magic, presented through a diverse ensemble of actors that continue to keep us engaged  and inspired.”

The series stars Ricky Whittle, Ian McShane, Orlanda Jones, Crispin Glover, Emily Browning, Bruce Langley, Yetide Badaki, Gillian Anderson, Kristin Chenoweth and Cloris Leachman. Bryan Fuller and Michael serve as the series’ showrunner. They also executive producer along with Gaiman, Cegielski, Adam Kane and Director David Slade.
