‘Scandal’s’ Seventh Season Will be its Last

One of the cornerstones of ABC’s Shondaland slate of programs is coming to an end. Scandal’s upcoming seventh season will be its final one.

The decision will not be officially announced until the network’s upfronts next week. However, TV Line and Hollywood Reporter are both confirming the news.

The relationship between Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Olivia (Kerry Washington) has been the foundation of Scandal since its pilot.

Reports are that Shonda Rhimes decided to end the series and ABC agreed. In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Rhimes said that the 2016 election has changed her plans for the show’s finale.

“I used to know how it ended, and then Donald Trump was elected,” Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter during an interview for its 100th episode. “We had a destination, and I don’t know if that’s our destination anymore.”

Of course ABC is still very much in the Shondaland business with Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder already renewed, and Still Star Crossed set for a summer run. The Catch’s fate has yet to be announced.

Scandal airs Thursdays at 9 pm on ABC.
