James Gunn Teases ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Release Date
Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director, James Gunn has been vocal about making adding a third film to the franchise.
Now, just as GoTG Vol. 2 is raking in millions at the box office, it seems that the director has given us a hint about when we can expect the third installment.
Gunn placed a heartfelt note to Guardians fans on his Facebook page, where he vowed to be there with fans “over the next three years as we create Vol. 3”.
If we are assuming that his dates are exact, it means we could be seeing the next film in theaters in 2020. This date aligns with Marvel’s currently known film calendar and with comments made by Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige.
When discussing some of Marvel’s plans for phase four, Feige said:
“Truthfully, other than knowing that we’re going to work with Sony on another Spider-Man film for that year and that James [Gunn] is committed to continuing with the ‘Guardians’ at some point, it’s all about Phase Three. I don’t even know if it will be called Phase Four. Things will be very different after 2019. After May of 2019.”
Feige also praised Gunn’s work with the Guardians and the cosmic world. He said:
“I think James in particular has an amazing connection with these characters and with this cosmic world. So he, I think, could easily oversee additional stories beyond ‘Vol. 3.”
