‘Riverdale’s’ Reggie to be Recast for Season Two

TV can be a fickle business and that was proven true this week when the producers of Riverdale announced that Reggie would be recast for the show’s second season.

Ross Butler has played the role during the series’ first season, however, his burgeoning career has led producers to make the change.

“We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie this season, but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn’t use him nearly as much as we would have liked,” series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in a statement to TVLine.

In addition to Riverdale, Butler has recently appeared in 13 Reasons Why and Teen Wolf. Apparently working on all these projects at once created a scheduling conflict producers could no longer work around.

“Next season, we want more Reggie on our show, he’s Archie’s rival, and because Ross is unavailable to come back to Riverdale, we’re looking for a new Reggie. Those are big shoes to fill, but we’re confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross. And of course we all wish Ross the best,” said Aguirre-Sacasa.

With this news just breaking there is no word on casting possibilities for the new Reggie.

Riverdale airs Thursdays at 9 pm on The CW.
