James Gunn Confirms Involvement With ‘Infinity War’
The job of an MCU director is never done. Whether your movie has already been released or if you don’t go into production for another ten months, part of the job when signing up to be apart of the MCU family as a writer or director is staying in contact with other writers and directors to make sure the entire universe that’s being built upon stays cohesive. It would be a bit off too introduce a character a certain way in one film but then when they crossover into another film that same character is completely unrecognizable. It also makes you wonder just how much Marvel Studios’ directors know about each other’s films.
During an interview with The Independent, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn confirmed that he has been in regular contact with Joe and Anthony Russo the directors of the third Avengers film Infinity War and the untitled fourth Avengers film. Gunn worked tirelessly to bring several not-as-popular Marvel characters to life on the big screen so it goes without saying that he would make sure that the integrity of the Star-Lord, Drax and Baby Groot remains true even if he isn’t in the director’s chair this time around. Gunn also confirmed on his Facebook page that he would be returning to write and direct the third installment of Guardians so he would definitely need to know where our cosmic heroes will end up at the end of Infinity War so it can coincide with where they begin at the start of the third Guardians film. Here’s what he had to say about the subject;
“I’m not totally letting go of the Guardians. I’m still hanging onto them a little as they go through ‘Infinity War’. I am with the guys, I’m talking with the Russo Brothers, I’m talking to the cast, I’m dealing with all sorts of stuff so we can have the characters remain true to themselves and they end up where they need to be for ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’.”
Good job Marvel, keep up at that cohesive movie universe. I mean who cares that you pretty much don’t even acknowledge your television counterparts, but now is not the time to be petty. Let’s just be content that there are Marvel directors who take the “It’s All Connected” theme as seriously as the fans do.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 shoots into the theaters on May 4, 2017. Avengers: Infinity War arrives on May 4, 2018 while the fourth Untitled Avengers Film opens on May 3, 2019.
