AMC Renews ‘Into the Badlands’ for Third Season
AMC’s martial arts drama series Into the Badlands starring Daniel Wu will continue its run as the show is renewed for a third season.
The show first premiered in 2015 with the first season hosting only six episodes. The second season totaled ten episodes, but encountered a delay in release halfway through its run. On average, the show raked in 3.6 million total viewers, and has been ranked as fourth in terms of best returning drama and best scripted drama on cable television, right behind The Walking Dead, American Horror Story and Fear the Walking Dead.
Now, the third and renewed season has promised an upgrade with 16 episodes slated for the series.
AMC president Charlie Collier stated:
Into the Badlands looks like nothing else on television, a literal high-wire act attracting passionate and dedicated fans by the millions. […] Thanks to series creators and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar, the terrific cast, led by Daniel Wu, the amazing martial arts team guided by the incomparable Master Dee Dee and fight directors Stephen Fung and Andy Cheng, and everyone else involved who brings this thrill ride to the fans.
Collier isn’t the only one praising the show and its cast and crew. Writers Al Gough and Miles Millar have expressed their excitement in continuing this show, saying:
We are excited and grateful to continue our journey into the Badlands with Charlie, Joel, Susie and all of our friends at AMC. […] We also want to give a big clipper salute to our Irish and Chinese partners! The thought of doing an expanded 16-episode season is both thrilling and exhausting!!
The show is produced in-house by AMC Studios. Into the Badlands season 3 will air some time in 2018.
