The Wasp To Take Center Stage In ‘Ant-Man’ Sequel

Production is slated to begin this June on Marvel’s Ant-Man and The Wasp making it the MCU’s first superhero film with a female superhero as the lead. Along with Paul Rudd returning as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lily will also reprise her role as Hope Van Dyne and based off of an end credits scene in 2014’s Ant-Man, where the character’s father Hank Pym played by Michael Douglas gifted her mother’s old superhero suit to her, audiences everywhere have been dying to see the character suit up. While speaking with Collider, director Peyton Reed confirmed that The Wasp we’ll be stepping fully into the forefront in the upcoming sequel. Here’s what he had to say:

“It’s something we’re excited about. For me as a comic nerd, I always thought of Ant-Man and Wasp as a team and that’s a lot of what the second movie is really about is how they work together, what their personal and professional relationships are like. To show her finally fully formed in this movie is really exciting. We really get to introduce this character into that universe. I mean we’ve introduced the character, but haven’t seen her with her full power set and everything, so to me she’s not a supporting character in this movie. It’s every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang’s.”

It’s interesting that Reed mentioned her power set. While The Wasp and Ant-Man share the same abilities to shrink in size and communicate with ants, Wasp also has the ability of flight and can shoot bio-electric energy blasts from her hands. Let’s hope the script stays true to her character’s combat capabilities making her a bad ass on the big screen. Along with Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily, Michael Pena and Michael Douglas will also reprise their roles established in the first Ant-Man film. Details about the film’s plot or additional characters have not yet been announced so stay on the look out for GOC to bring you more updates as they come in.
