Marvel definitely has their hands full at the moment. With Black Panther wrapping production, Infinity War still in production, and the upcoming releases of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Raganrok this has definitely been a busy year for the MCU. Now, the year is still expanding after Kevin Feige confirmed that the speculation that Ant-Man and The Wasp will begin production in June is true:
“Assuming everything stays on schedule, we start filming Ant-Man and The Wasp in June.”
Now the pressure is on because this film will not only be the first female led superhero film to be released by the MCU (it comes out nine months before Captain Marvel) but it is also the first film to kickstart what may or may not be known as Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After Thanos finally stops spinning in his space-rock chair and arrives on Earth to retrieve the Infinity Stones and wreak havoc on the Avengers, Ant-Man and The Wasp will be the direct follow up to pick up where that momentous event left off which makes the potential storyline that much more intriguing to ponder over. But for now let us marvel (no pun intended) at the fact that Evangeline Lily will reprise her role as Hope Van Dyne and instead of having a minor action sequence while wearing a business suit, she will indeed suit up as The Wasp further expanding the roster of female heroes in the MCU.
Peyton Reed is returning to direct this highly anticipated sequel while the script is being written by newcomers Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily, Michael Pena and Michael Douglas are confirmed to reprise their roles but their have not been any additional casting announcements.
