Universal Contemplating Fast & Furious Spin-Off Starring Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson
The Fate of the Furious is the number one movie in the box office right now and has brought in over $680-million worldwide. So, Universal Pictures contemplating a spin-off film is certainly not surprising.
According to Deadline, the spin-off would be written by franchise veteran Chris Morgan and would reunite Dwayne Johnson’s, Luke Hobbs with Jason Statham’s, Deckard Shaw.
The duo are franchise fan-favorites and with their witty banter and exchanges in the franchise’s eighth film, had made them quite the entertaining pair.
It’s also being reported by Variety that Charlize Theron’s villainous character Cipher, might be added to the mix as well, but with the concept in its early stages there is no contact in place for the three actors.
However, the film would likely be based on Hobbs and Shaw teaming up to capture Cipher after her The Fate of the Furious allowed the writers to further play with the team’s newest enemy.
The report from Deadline suggests that the spin-off movie, could hit theaters before the next installment of the Fast & Furious franchise.
