Joss Whedon Will Bring Batgirl to The Big Screen

If you haven’t heard, writer, director, and mastermind behind Marvel’s The Avengers Joss Whedon is planning on bringing another famous hero to the big screen: Batgirl. At the world premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, he spoke about the project with Variety.

“I have so many things to say about her, I’m very excited to see a girl in the cowl. I don’t have my eye on anybody. I’m creating this character, I’m in a dialogue with her and then we’ll see who joins that later on… I doubt it’ll be a name. I think this is somewhere where you go and find Batgirl and then you cast her.”

He also mentioned that while he wouldn’t be opposed to having an already well-known celebrity in the title role, he’s more focused on casting the right person for the part.

The Batgirl movie is going to be part of the rapidly growing DC universe and is only the most recent announcement and will join films like Wonder Woman, Justice League which come out later this year and Aquaman, and The Flash, which have expected release dates for 2018. No other producers are currently attached, but Toby Emmerich, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns will oversee the project for the studio.
