Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck Tapped to Direct ‘Captain Marvel’
Yesterday we reported that Peyton Reed accidentally let it slip that a director for the MCU’s first female standalone film “Captain Marvel” had been chosen. Well today it looks like things are official. Variety reports that “Mississippi Grind” Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have been tapped to direct Marvel’s “Captain Marvel,” starring Brie Larson.
It was reported last fall that head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, had settled on a shortlist comprised of female directors. The list included: Lorene Scafaria (The Meddler), Niki Caro (The Zookeeper’s Wife), Leslie Linka Glatter (Homeland) and Rebecca Thomas (Electrick Children).
Sources say the studio not only wanted to make sure that the search was thorough but that the script was in the right shape before tapping who would direct it.
“Inside Out” scribe Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman are currently writing the script. The story follows Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy project, and flight.
