Marvel Unveils First Footage from Black Panther
At a special open house at Marvel’s Los Angeles headquarters Monday night, guests were treated to a first look at the Black Panther.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the film’s director, Ryan Coogler (Creed, Fruitvale Station) said in a sizzle reel:
“I’m super excited about an African king who is also strong enough, fast enough, smart enough to do some of the things that T’Challa is going to do in this film.”
The footage featured Chadwick Boseman as the titular character, along with Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, one of the King’s Dora Milaje, as she single-handedly takes out a group of armed enemies in the jungle.
Forest Whitaker as Zuri and Danai Gurira as Okoye were also present in the footage during a scene taking place at T’Challa’s coronation.
Missing from the screened footage was Shuri, played by Letitia Wright and the villainous Killmonger, played by Michael B. Jordan. However, Jordan was part of the sizzle reel where he did a short interview about his character and some concept art for Killmonger was shared.
Of the movie itself, Jordan said:
“The story is just going to be very honest and gritty. I think it’s a lot of the right ingredients that we have to make something really special.”
