According to a report from Collider, Netflix has green-lit a new animated Carmen Sandiego series with Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) voicing the title character.

The show is set to debut in 2019 and will feature other voice talent from Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) as Carmen’s friend and associate.

An initial order of 20 episodes with a run-time of 22 minutes is already in place with Duane Capizzi (The Batman) as show runner and co-executive producer, alongside CJ Kettler (The Tick) and Caroline Fraser.

The original Carmen Sandiego cartoon portrayed the fedora sporting character as a world traveling burglar of sorts, who was constantly hunted by all leading police task forces throughout the world.

However, the Netflix show will put a new spin on Sandiego.  This is how Netflix described the upcoming show:

Carmen Sandiego is back and ready for a new crop of international capers packed with thrilling adventure and intrigue. This fresh take presents an intimate look into Carmen’s past where viewers will not only follow her escapades but also learn WHO in the world is Carmen Sandiego and WHY she became a super thief.

The show’s Golden Globe winning star seems excited about her new role too! Check out her tweets below:
