The Fate of the Furious Rakes in Over $400 Million During Opening Weekend
The Fate of The Furious, the 8th installment in the Fast & Furious franchise, was released into theaters recently and with less than a full week under its belt, the movie is already dominating at the box office.
The movie alone cost $250 million to make and has already passed that amount in only its opening weekend: It has currently made $432.3 million worldwide, most of that money coming from its performance in the foreign markets.
The Fate of the Furious is also special because it’s reportedly supposed to be kickstarting its own spin-off. One of the series’ stars, Vin Diesel said before a screening that, “As the world sees this movie, they’ll see how its the beginning of a new trilogy.” Reportedly, the film’s synopsis involves Dom, Diesel’s character and a long-standing member of the franchise, who ends up being seduced by a woman and falling into a world of crime and as a result, betraying the people closest to him: his family.
The Fast and the Furious franchise has earned the Universal company $4.4 billion dollars worldwide and is currently #8 on the list of highest-grossing film series ever, right below X-Men.
