Rian Johnson Confirms “Last Jedi” Is Singular
Ever since the title for the eighth Star Wars installment was released back in January, fans have been theorizing about whether the “Jedi,” in Star Wars: The Last Jedi is singular or plural. Writer/director Rian Johnson has confirmed that “Jedi,” was always singular in his mind.
“It’s so funny when people started asking that when the title was announced, because I never even pondered that question,” Johnson told ABC News. “Look, in my mind, it’s singular. In my mind it is, absolutely.”
When asked if Luke Skywalker is the last Jedi, the filmmaker remained fairly ambiguous. “Well, if you say so,” he answered with a smile. “I’m going to take your word for it. They say in ‘The Force Awakens that he’s going to find the last Jedi temple, and Luke’s the last … Luke is the last Jedi …”
Johnson let his answer trail of significantly at the end of the interview, so perhaps we should take that as a grain of salt, especially with Luke’s words in the trailer, that “It’s time for the Jedi to end.”
