‘Captain Phasma’ Comic Series Announced
The Star Wars Celebration Orlando has been like Christmas day for any fan of the universe. As the first trailer for the upcoming film Star Wars: The Last Jedi debuted today, so much more exciting news has followed. Now we have one more thing to add to the list. It has been confirmed that a comic series based on Captain Phasma is being released by Marvel Comics.
During the marketing campaign for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the character was featured heavily in many promos but received very little screen time in the final cut of the film. Fans were a bit disappointed since the character was played by Gwendoline Christie (Game Of Thrones). The idea definitely sounds intriguing and based on the excitement of its creators, exploring the backstory of such a mysterious character will no doubt make fans feel more connected to her once The Last Jedi is released in theaters.
The four issue series will be penned by Kelly Thompson who is most notably known for her work on Hawkeye and will feature artwork from Marvel comics alum Marco Chechetto. Chechetto’s credits include Spider-Man and Daredevil. In a press release, Thompson had this to say about the upcoming comic series:
“It’s exciting enough when someone lets you contribute to the ‘Star Wars’ universe in any real way, but when they let you create the first ever Phasma story for comics? Well, that’s about as good as it gets! Like most, I’m a huge fan of Gwendoline Christie and Phasma. Christie is magnetic and Phasma has so much fascinating potential… potential which I can’t wait to help unlock for fans in our comic.”
The comics series will be set after the events of The Force Awakens and will follow Phasma’s escape from the doomed Starkiller base. The story itself is said to bridge the gap between The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. The first issue will be released in September and will feature cover art by Paul Renaud. If you are unfamiliar with the character of Captain Phasma, here are few facts to help you with your geek knowledge. She is the commander of the First Order’s stormtroopers and leads the faction alongside Kylo Ren and General Hux. She wears chromium armor that was salvaged from the Naboo yacht of longtime Star Wars villain Sheev Palpatine, the Emporer of the Galactic Empire. After being taken prisoner and thrown in a trash compactor by Finn, Han Solo and Chewbacca it will be intriguing to see how she survives and the events that follow.
