Trevor Jackson Joins Yara Shahidi in Black-Ish Spinoff

Last January, it was announced that Kenya Barris’ hit ABC sitcom Black-Ish and ABC productions were in talks of producing a spinoff of the critically acclaimed show based on Yara Shahidi’s focusing on Zoey Johnson. The premise would be that Zoey will be “off to college… or “A Different World 2.0”.

Today, Shadow and Act reports that after three months of early production talks, ABC is moving ahead with the project, with additional casting announced this week.

ABC announced this week that Trevor Jackson (ABC’s “American Crime”) has been cast to play a college freshman (and classmate to Zoey/Shahidi). Additionally, Chris Parnell (“Saturday Night Live”) and Matt Walsh (“Veep”) have all booked roles as a pair of college administrators, respectively.

Jackson, Parnell, and Walsh are scheduled to be guest stars in an episode of “Black-ish”, which will act as a backdoor pilot for the spin-off series.

Filming for the untitled Black-ish spin-off series will start this spring.
