John Simm Brings The Master Back to ‘Doctor Who’
One of The Doctor’s most legendary enemies returns for the tenth season of Doctor Who when John Simm reprises his version of The Master.
This is interesting news since The Master has recently been played by Michelle Gomez as the regenerated Missy.

Peter Capaldi as The Doctor with Michelle Gomez as Missy in Doctor Who.
For the uninitiated, The Master is an evil Time Lord who has plagued The Doctor through several of his regenerations. Simm’s incarnation famously fought against David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor. He was last seen sacrificing himself to stop the Time Lords from returning the time war to Earth.
The Master returned a few seasons later to torment Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor as Missy.
On a show like Doctor Who meeting a previous version of yourself isn’t that big of a deal.
“I can confirm that it’s true, thanks to the power of time travel I’m back,” said Simm. “It’s always a pleasure to work with this great team of people and I can’t wait for you all to see what the Master gets up to in the next series.“
It will be fascinating to watch how the brilliantly evil narcissist handles interacting with a female version of himself.
Executive Producer/writer Steven Moffat had planned to keep the return a secret, but the surprise got spoiled.
“Nothing stays secret for long on Doctor Who but you’ll have to wait a little bit longer to see exactly what the Master is up to and how he makes his return to face the Doctor,” said Moffat. “It’s been a huge pleasure to have fan favorites John Simm and Michelle Gomez face to face in the same role! It’s not often you get to see a solo personality clash.”
Doctor Who’s tenth season premieres Saturday, April 15 at 9 pm ET on BBC America.
