Nicole Kidman on Why She Wanted to Play Queen Atlanna
The Academy Award winning actress will be seen as Queen Atlanna, mother to Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the upcoming movie.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Kidman has always been a fan of Aquaman director, James Wan and wanted to do a role that would be ‘fun’.
In the interview, Kidman said:
“The reason why I love [Aquaman] is James Wan is an Australian, and I’ve followed his career since he started. He’s a really good friend of mine, and he offered to let me play Queen Atlanna. As soon as he said I could wear mother-of-pearl and be a mermaid warrior, I said I’m done. Please. If there is one thing I have to do in my life, I have to be that. [Laughs] Because, you’ve got to have some fun.”
It will be interesting to see Kidman’s take on the Atlantean Queen. Her best known role in a comic book movie was as psychologist, Dr. Chase Meridian, in the 1995 film Batman Forever.
Most recently, Kidman was seen in Lion, opposite Dev Patel. She was nominated for the best supporting actress Oscar at the 2017 Academy Awards for her portrayal of Saroo Brierley’s adoptive mother, Sue.
