The New 52 Incarnation of Batgirl Will Be Basis for Joss Whedon’s Film

It was recently revealed that Joss Whedon was nearing a deal to direct a Batgirl standalone flick. But now we have further news.

Based on a report via Entertainment Weekly, we know the version of Barbara Gordon/Batgirl we’ll be seeing on the big screen. Whedon’s Batgirl movie will be from DC’s The New 52 universe!

The film will be based off of writer Gail Simone’s 2011 take on Batgirl. In Simone’s story reboot, Barbara Gordon regained the use of  her legs after the spinal injury she suffered in the 1988 graphic novel, Batman: The Killing Joke.

It will be interesting to see if or how they weave the contents of The Killing Joke into the film and how it will affect Barbara Gordon’s character.

It’s great to see another strong woman entering the fray of comic book movies. Fingers crossed that Warner Bros. and Joss Whedon consult with Simone on the project!

What do you think about the film going The New 52 route with Batgirl? Let us know in the comments below.
