Teasers for Taraji P Henson, Idris Elba, Dwayne Johnson & Diego Luna Led Films Showcased at CinemaCon

Sony kicked off the first night of CinemaCon, and they showcased a range of exciting new projects on the horizon. Of course all the focus is on Sony’s biggest films this year, Spider-Man: Homecoming  and Blade Runner: 2049. However, let us look to their lesser known projects. One of those projects is Taraji P Henson’s Proud Mary. Babak Najadi (London Has Fallen) is directing the film, and it follows a hit woman who develops maternal feelings towards a young boy whom she orphaned. This film has been compared to the classic female assassin film La Femme Nikita.

Sony also showcased Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillian. Jumanji is set to release December 22nd. Dark Tower starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. The footage for Dark Tower shown is the first time ever for the film, which is set for a July 28th release, a trailer should not that far behind. Footage was also shown for the rebooted Flatliners starring Diego Luna and Ellen Page. The film is set for to release September 28th. Expect Sony to start exploiting Diego Luna’s new found international celebrity thanks to Rogue One.

These are exciting new projects lead by People Of Color, and is encouraging to see studios commit to diverse talents. There has been a push by audiences to change perspectives and it seems to be making a difference. Let’s hope these films are a hit and encourage more racial and gender diversity.
