So, the first question has to be how is Donkey Kong not already in the Hall of Fame? Not only did it rule arcades throughout the 80s, it introduced Mario. Without Donkey Kong there would be no Super Mario Bros. or Mario Kart.

To be fair, this is only the third class to be inducted into the hall of fame at The Strong museum in Rochester. Previous inductees include: The Legend of Zelda, Pac-Man, Pong, Sonic the Hedgehog, Tetris, World of Warcraft, and Super Mario Bros.

Video game journalist and scholars from around the world will choose the 2017 hall of fame class, which will be announced May 4.
