Here is the official first-look at Oscar winner, Alicia Vikander as everyone’s favorite thrill-seeking archaeologist extraordinaire, Lara Croft.
This version of Lara Croft is inspired by the 2013 reboot of the long-running video game, Tomb Raider. The origin story depicts a 21-year-old Croft after the disappearance of her father. Instead of taking charge over her family’s company, the young woman instead opts for a job as a bike messenger.
Still in school, Croft allows her curiosity to get the better of her and she starts to investigate her father’s disappearance and heads to to where he was last seen- an island off Japan’s coast.
Vikander is taking on the role that was previously filled by Angelina Jolie in two previous films, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life. Those films brought in a worldwide box office tally of $431-million.
With director, Roar Uthaug set to direct, the new Tomb Raider film will also star Daniel Wu, Dominic West and Walton Goggins.
Mark your calendars for a March 16, 2018 release date!
