The Disney live-action take on Mulan has long been coming, and as someone who has memorized the Disney animated film by heart, it is certainly exciting to see where the studio will take this. After it was announced that Niki Caro will direct the film, she has recently stated a rather important – and a little surprising – bit of news
As of now, the live-action remake of Mulan will be “a big, girly martial arts epic” with “no songs right now.”
It is a little surprising to hear, since the latest Disney live-action remakes have included songs from the original animations such as Beauty and the Beast and The Jungle Book. The iconic songs like Reflection and Man Out of You have become staples to any mention of Disney’s film, so not utilizing them feels a little risky. Disney songs, after all, are a large part of what makes their movies so magical. Not to mention, Sony is also in the works of creating their live-action version of the female warrior, so it seems like Disney may be losing a major disadvantage by not including any of its original songs.
As of now, there is no clear indication of why these songs will not be included.
