Man of Steel is now widely known for being the start of the DCEU and since then, we’ve gotten: Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, along with the upcoming solo debut of Wonder Woman as well Justice League, Aquaman, Gotham City Sirens (with Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn & David Ayer as the director), and a slew of untitled DCEU films. With that being said, it almost seemed like Warner Bros. forgot about a solo Superman follow-up to Man of Steel or just using BvS as a sequel. Now we have rumors not only confirming the production of the well deserved Superman solo film but it may have found its director.
Collider was the first to report that director, Matthew Vaughn, has been eyed to direct the Man of Steel sequel. This wouldn’t be the first time Vaughn has been tied to a Superman project. Before Man of Steel began production the director sat with Warner Bros. executives about Superman as a character which gives us an inkling of what he would have done with the character.
“I think that’s the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious The Dark Knight version. Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me.”
It sounds like Vaughn would have taken a lighter tone with the Boy in Blue which gives us an idea of how the would be director would go about this movie. Of course this movie takes place in an already existing universe with its own established tone that Vaughn would have to keep in mind; however, Ben Affleck spoke about a complete tonal shift in Justice League.
This won’t be Vaughn’s first go at a comic book movie. He’s worked on the likes of: X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service and is currently wrapping Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
Man of Steel 2 has no confirmed date as of now but Wonder Woman hits theaters June 2nd!
