USA didn’t have to look far to cast Tupac Shakur for its upcoming drama Unsolved: The Murders of Biggie and Tupac.

The latest true crime story to come to television is based on the book Murder Rap: The Untold Stories of the Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls Murder Investigations by the Detective who Solved Both Cases.

Marcc Rose (pictured above with Dr. Dre) appeared as Tupac in Straight Outta Compton and will revive the role for Unsolved’s pilot. Rapper Wavyy Jonez was cast as Biggie after a nationwide search.

Former LAPD detective Greg Kading wrote the book the series is based on and led the investigations for both murders. He is played by Transformers star Josh Duhamel.

Also set to co-star in the pilot are Jimmi Simpson and Bokeem Woodbine.

The success of The People vs O.J. has made true crime stories TV’s new obsession. Also in the works for next season are several limited series based on the Menendez brothers.

A major difference is both of those those cases had trials and verdicts, while the murders of Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace remain unsolved.
