First Look at Graphic Novel Savage Town
Image Comics has just released new images from its upcoming graphic novel Savage Town, which is coming this fall. Savage Town was created by Declan Shalvey and Philip Barrett. The story takes place in Limerick, Ireland and revolves around an amateur criminal named Jimmy “Hardy” Savage.
Along with these images, Shalvey has done an interview with Barnes and Noble. According to Shalvey, in the world of this book, there are two gangs that control the streets of Limerick. The protagonist, Jimmy, is the head of a smaller time gang, and he starts to upset the leaders of the other gangs.
Shalvey says that he chose the city of Limerick as a setting in part because it is an “underdog city”, as opposed to Dublin or another well-known city in Ireland. Shalvey says he attended art college in Limerick during the early 2000s, and there was a drug war in the city at the time.
