Ashton Sanders is one of the many newcomers who starred in the film Moonlight, which took home the coveted Best Picture prize at last night’s 89th Academy Awards.

Now, the Moonlight star is in talks to join Hollywood heavy weight Denzel Washington in Dan Gilroy’s legal thriller, Inner City.

The film will focus on Washington, who plays a lawyer that discovers his practice has not always done the job in accordance to the law and conflicts with his personal values. This causes upheaval which Washington has to fix under extreme circumstances.

Sanders will be playing a recent law school graduate who has been helping Washington’s character on some pro-bono cases.

Gilroy will be directing the film, based on his own screenplay- just like he did for his critically acclaimed thriller, Nightcrawler back in 2014 and he was a co-writer for this year’s Kong: Skull Island.

The 21-year-old previously had a small part in Straight Outta Compton and is currently filming the sci-fi film, Captive State with John Goodman, Vera Farmiga and Machine Gun Kelly that will be released in 2018.

No date has been set for the release of Inner City, but be on the lookout for Sanders. He’s clearly making big moves!
