CinemaBlend spoke with X-Men mastermind Simon Kinberg about the state of Gambit. Kinberg is a one of the producers and writers for the X-Men franchise, and has just been recently in the news for helming a X-Men: Supernova. Kinberg told CinemaBlend,
“In terms of Gambit, that’s a movie that we’re still developing very actively, and Channing [Tatum] is incredibly committed to it. We plan to probably shoot that at the beginning of next year.”
The project has been pre-production limbo since the casting of Channing Tatum and after a couple of directors dropped of the project.
At this point Gambit still does not have a director. Has not moved into production or set a date. Kinberg alludes to the possible shoot date to be in “beginning of next year”. Fox may rush into production soon, Logan is getting critical acclaim and may be box office hit. Deadpool was a box office success, a critical success, and has now ignited the discussion of whether comic book movies can be worthy of Academy award nominations. If Gambit begins shooting in early 2018, the release would perhaps be in mid-late 2019.
Logan slashes into theatres March 2.
