Cress Williams Cast as ‘Black Lightning’

The CW has found its lead for their Black Lightning pilot: cue, Cress Williams!

Williams is no stranger to the network, having had a starring role in their four-season drama series The Hart of Dixie before landing his new role in Black Lightning.

The show will focus on Jefferson Pierce (Williams) after he’s long-given up his secret identity and hung up his uniform. But with a daughter who continually seeks justice and is about to be recruited in a local gang, Pierce must rethink his decision. In the end, the father will once again take up the mantle of Black Lightning.

The series will be written by Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil, who are the mastermind writing duo behind the BET series  Being Mary Jane.  In addition to writing, Salim will also tackle the directing duties for the new series.

Greg Berlanti will be producing the series, continuing his reign of the CW’s DC Universe.
