Drew Goddard to Pen Deadpool 2 Script? – UPDATED
When an R-rated movie is released to as much fanfare and success as Deadpool, it’s hard to imagine what the people behind the scenes must go through in order to create a follow-up film that’s just as grand and meets (or hopefully surpasses) every fans’ expectations.
And with Deadpool it seems, that even for the briefest of moments, some of us might have lost a bit of hope- or at least wondered what had gone wrong when previous director Tim Miller suddenly exited the project.
It was being reported by Collider that original Deadpool film writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are also no longer part of the second film and the screenplay for the Merc with a mouth’s sequel would be handled by Drew Goddard.
Goddard is no stranger to big-budget action films having written the scripts for The Cabin in the Woods (co-written with Joss Whedon), World War Z, Cloverfield and The Martian.
UPDATE: Ryan Reynolds has quelled the rumour mill with a tweet stating that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are still indeed penning the screenplay.
.@RhettReese and Paul Wernick are still very much writing the screenplay. They’re the heartbeat of the whole operation. https://t.co/7XyZvUlUSi

Thanks for clarifying, Mr. Reynolds!
