George Miller and Denis Villenueve on Rumored Director Shortlist for The Batman
So it wasn’t too long ago that Ben Affleck stepped down as the director of The Batman, but many lists of potential directors to take his place have been hitting the web like crazy.
Some of the list have featured many different names, but a few that seem to keep appearing are Matt Reeves (War For The Planet of The Apes), Gavin O’Connor (The Accountant), and even – oddly enough – longtime Warner Bros. collaborator Zack Snyder keeps being brought up in the discussion. But now there’s two new and pretty big names that have been thrown into the hat.
Forbes has reported that Denis Villenueve (Sicario) and George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road) are now on the shortlist of directors that could helm the project. While both of them are extremely talented, it would be more likely for Miller to take the part as opposed to Villenueve, due to the director’s busy schedule (he’s currently finishing up Blade Runner 2049, and will begin production on a Dune reboot afterwards). Miller is a longtime choice to direct a superhero film, due to his creative style. He was actually in line to direct a Justice League film back in ’07, but then the film was cancelled. Regardless, it looks like Warner Bros. is seeking out some serious talent to helm The new Dark Knight’s first solo film. we just hope they chose someone that Ben can work with really well, because we all want this film to do great.
