‘Scarface’ Reboot Loses Director Antoine Fuqua..Diego Luna To Lead Movie

Earlier today news dropped about Ben Affleck leaving the directing seat for the upcoming, Batman film, well it appears another director has dropped out their project as well. Today isn’t a good day for directors.

Variety has reported that Universal’s reboot of the classic gangster pic “Scarface”  has lost it’s director Antoine Fuqua.

Sources say Sony and Denzel Washington want a sequel to “The Equalizer” very quickly and need Fuqua back to being prepping the film, which caused conflicted with the “Scarface”schedule. Universal still wants the film up and running by the spring, and has already begun meeting with directors so production won’t be affected.

Variety also reports that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘s Diego Luna is attached to play the lead in the upcoming Scarface reboot.

The film will be a Bluegrass Films and Global Produce production, and will be produced by Marc Shmuger, Scott Stuber, and Dylan Clark. Marty Bregman, producer of the 1983 “Scarface” film, will also produce.

Exec VP of production Jon Mone and VP of production Jay Polidoro will oversee the project for Universal.

What do you guys think of this? Are you still excited for the Scarface reboot? Hopefully the studio can bring on a director as good as Fuqua to give this movie some litness!
