Hip-Hop Legend RZA Has Directed An Episode of ‘Iron Fist’
The Marvel Netflix series ‘Iron Fist’ is just around the corner, we received the the list of episode names and directors earlier this week. Finn Jones recently did a live stream with Extra and was asked about the musical inspiration that influenced Iron Fist. He revealed that Episode 6 of the upcoming Iron Fist Netflix series will be directed by legendary rapper and director RZA:
“So before I started the role, I actually made a playlist on my Ipod of songs that Danny Rand would listen to. It’s a lot of kind of 90’s hip-hop, like De La Soul, Jurassic 5, Tribe Called Quest, Wu Tang Clan. Like that kind of music is what Danny’s really jamming to. And we feature that in the series. And actually one of our episodes was directed by the RZA himself. Episode 6. So yeah there’s a very close tie with hiphop and the Iron Fist series.”
The Iron Fist episode that RZA has directed is titled Immortal Emerges From Cave, which sounds like it could be Danny’s origin story. When asked about his experience working with the RZA, Finn had this to say:
“Oh he’s a dude. Really super chill. Has a really good vision of what he wants. And he really understands that genre, the martial arts genre.”
Marvel isn’t a stranger when it comes to linking hip-hop to the MCU. Luke Cage had a lot of hip-hop influence, with a soundtrack full of hip-hop classics and numerous performers making an appearance on the show. Another member of the Wu-Tang Clan, Method Man, made an appearance in one of the show’s episodes, trading hoodies with the hero, it was lit.
