‘Black-ish’: A Spinoff Starring Yara Shahidi’s Character In College Is In The Works
Last week ‘Black-ish’ aired a very powerful episode discussing the election results, I highly recommend watching it if you haven’t. The show has been killing it in the ratings and it looks like ABC wants to expand the ‘Black-ish’ franchise.
According to Deadline, ABC is looking to make a spin off show that would focus around Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahid), in college. This season, to bolster her applications for college, her dad got her an internship at Teen Vogue. The idea for the for the potential new comedy series is to be introduced as a backdoor pilot episode on Black-ish this spring. The spinoff is still in very early stages, with no script and deals in place. But hopefully everything works out and the show gets produced.
Black-ish, now in its third season, is coming off a Golden Globe win for Ross and also has landed a slew of Emmy nominations, including for best comedy series.
I’ve never really seen a show handle the transition from teen to adulthood accurately, but if any show were to do it, it’d be Black-ish. What do you guys think about Zoey getting a spin off? Would you watch it? Let us know!
